Online charity auction of Ronaldo's armband breaks all records in Serbia in just 6 hours
Earlier in the day, it emerged that the humanitarian organization "Zajedno za Zivot" ("Together for Life") had put up for auction the captain's armband that Cristiano Ronaldo threw away in anger while leaving the pitch in Belgrade, during the Serbia v Portugal World Cup qualifier last weekend.
The goal of selling the armband is to raise funds to help a baby called Gavrilo get the medication he needs to beat spinal muscular atrophy.
The auction has been set to last three days and all the proceeds from the sale will be donated to Gavrilo, who needs 2,5 million euros for the drug to be procured.
The person thanks to whom this campaign was made possible is a stadium worker who picked up the armband and decided to donate it for charity.
It took only six hours since the news about this broke for the armband's value to go from 25,000 to 700,000 dinars (just under 6,000 euros)!
With the figure of over 700,000 dinars, this auction has already become record-breaking in Serbia when it comes to sports paraphernalia and the question now is how high the price will go.
The price is certain to grow even more in the coming period, however, since there are more than 60 hours left for people to submit their bids.
This humanitarian campaign resonated outside the borders of Serbia as well, as it was covered by a leading agency, the AP, with the story picked up by almost all media around the world.
If you are ready to bid in this auction, here is where you can do it.
