The Government of Serbia will adopt new measures today which were agreed on during consultations with the medical part of the Crisis HQ for the fight against the coronavirus, Tanjug has learned from the government. As of today, students of upper elementary school grades in Serbia are switching to online classes. High school students have been doing the same since last week.

The decision regarding the students from the fifth to the eighth grade was made on Friday at the meeting of the Crisis HQ, while for high school students, this is their second week of online classes.

The decision on a new tightening of measures is expected today. The medical part of the Crisis HQ has been stressing the need to introduce a lockdown for a limited amount of time. The time during which contacts should be reduced, in order to reduce the number of infected people is now no longer 10, but 14 days, Crisis HQ member Predrag Kon said yesterday.

"That is the minimum amount of time that will be needed to lower the activity of the virus," said Kon, the media reported.

"We will certainly have to introduce stricter measures, but we'll see what can be done and what is the smartest thing to do," Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Branbic said yesterday.

A new meeting of the Crisis HQ, which was announced for today, will not be held. Media reports said that yesterday, the consultations between the representatives of the Government of Serbia and the medical part of the Crisis HQ lasted for about an hour and a half.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, coronavirus has been confirmed in 516,277 people in Serbia, with the death toll currently at 4,719. According to the latest data available on Sunday afternoon, over the previous 24 hours the virus was confirmed in 4,226 more people, while another 25 patients died from Covid.
