Djukanovic seeks closing of border: "Ban entry to Montenegro without PCR test"

President of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic is worried about the epidemiological situation in that country, and is calling on everyone to unite in order to defeat Covid-19.

Djukanovic said that the horrific numbers revealing the daily increase in the number of infections require prompt introduction and efficient implementation of epidemiological measures, the closing of the border for those without a PCR test, as well as accelerating the process of immunization of the population.

"In order to protect citizens, we must rise above divisions," said Djukanovic.

He added that in just over 11 months, more than 1,000 Montenegrin citizens died from coronavirus.

"What was sad news in April or May last year coming from friendly countries around the world with much larger populations, which is why I was sending expressions of sympathies and solidarity to the heads of state on behalf of the citizens of Montenegro - is our tragic reality today," said Djukanovic.

According to him, the horrific numbers revealing the daily increase in the number of infections and deaths must not leave anyone indifferent.

"The health of our citizens is in serious danger," said Djukanovic and appealed on state institutions and citizens to "return to those activities and responsible behavior, as we did in the first wave."

"More than ever, we need a systemic approach, team work of competent institutions, professionalism, efficiency and solidarity in performing all tasks. To that end, it is necessary to promptly introduce and vigorously implement measures, effectively control their observance, close the border for entry to Montenegro without a PCR test, as well as speed up the immunization process in the interest of more efficient and long-term health protection," said Djukanovic.

"In order to succeed in that, we must rise above all divisions, forget about mutual accusations and all differences and disagreements of political and other nature, demonstrate that as a society we are up to this challenge and the times we live in," he stressed.
