Jankovic: The proposal is to keep only grocery stores, pharmacies and gas stations open on weekends
"Of course, we are far from something we could call the end of the coronavirus epidemic. It's good that there's a large number of vaccinations, but that cannot be compared to the end of the epidemic," Dr. Srdja Jankovic, immunologist and member of the Crisis HQ, told RTV.
He stressed that the measures that are in force should be reconsidered, while they should be implemented rigorously and consistently.
As he said, we have come to a certain point so that tomorrow a decision would be made on the necessary tightening of measures.
"Weekends are a big problem, the proposal is to allow only stores selling basic necessities, pharmacies and gas stations to be open (during Saturdays and Sundays). Every doctor, in the Crisis HQ as well, is in favor of more rigorous measures and supervision, because we have a situation that threatens to get worse," he said.
As he added, the essence of prevention remains the same.
"A virus can mutate, the most important thing is not the subtype of the virus. The vaccine affects them all, it's necessary to prevent infection, reduce the risk of virus transmission from person to person, reduce all gatherings that are not absolutely necessary," stressed Dr. Jankovic, adding that the fewer people get infected, the fewer will have a more severe clinical picture or a fatal outcome.
