Spain gives consent for match against so-called Kosovo: "It doesn't mean we recognize them as state"
Spain will, after all, play against so-called Kosovo at home
The Spanish government has given permission to play the qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup between the football teams of Spain and Kosovo in Spain, the Catalan newspaper Sport is reporting.
The Spanish Football Federation has designated the stadium in Seville as the place to host the Kosovo team in the World Cup qualifier, to be played on March 31, thus rejecting speculation that Madrid was looking for a way to play the game on neutral ground.
According to this paper, the only thing awaited now is the official approval by the government in Madrid, which Sport says will be announced soon.
"The government has given the green light for the match in Spain. However, this decision does not mean that Spain recognizes Kosovo's independence," says Sport's article.
The Kosovo team is in Group B, together with Spain, Sweden, Greece and Georgia - out of these four countries, three do not recognize Kosovo as independent.
