Belgrade beauty perfect for excursions and recreation: Attractions on Mt. Avala you should visit

In the past, a favorite picnic spot for many Belgraders on May Day (Labor Day in Serbia), this mountain near the Serbian capital still attracts many people. Its highest peak Zrnov is located at 511 meters above sea level, so Avala is considered to be a low mountain.

If you have not had the opportunity to visit this mountain before - located only about 16 kilometers from the capital of our country - you should know that a bus line regularly operates to its top and back during the season. It is very important for drivers to know that the road leading to the top of the mountain and from there to its foot is one way, so there is no fear that they will be hit by a car coming from the opposite direction.

What to see on Avala?

The first stop is usually the Monument to Soviet War Veterans, located just below the peak. A plane carrying Soviet war veterans, who were on their way to participate in Belgrade Liberation Day ceremonies on October 19, 1964, crashed right there.

You should not miss visiting the Avala Tower, which was reopened on April 21, 2010 after reconstruction. The tower, as is well known, was destroyed during the NATO bombing of our country in 1999.

The height of the tower is 204.68 meters, while an observation deck is located at 122 meters. A coffee bar is located at 119 meters, while visitors can use a summer terrace at the deck. It only takes 40 seconds for the elevator to take you to the open observation deck.

The price of a single ticket to enter the Avala Tower is 300 dinars, while children up to seven years of age pay the symbolic price of 1 dinar. As stated on the official website, the same applies to 100% disabled persons and persons with special needs, as well as their companions, and licensed tourist guides with IDs.

And while you are there, don't miss visiting the magnificent Monument to the Unknown Hero. Although it may be hard to climb so many steps, the view from there is worth the effort.
