Immunologist and member of the Crisis HQ Srdja Jankovic says that it may become necessary to adopt stricter measures in Serbia, but that at this moment, it is much more important that the measures already in place are implemented.

Despite almost a million vaccinated citizens, the number of new daily coronavirus cases is not dropping. Srdja Jankovic says that the emphasis is still on a rigorous implementation of measures, before we go into talking about tightening them.

Regarding media reports that the medical part of the Crisis HQ proposed a complete closure of cafes and restaurants, Jankovic stresses that such a measure may become necessary, but not yet.

"But if these facilities cannot implement the measures that are in force, that is, if prevention is implemented in this mode of work, it may become necessary to adopt stricter measures. At this moment, it is much more important that these measures are implemented," Jankovic remarked in a statement for RTS.

Jankovic stresses that he understands the people gathered in cafes and that this is a human need, but he also reminds of the doctors working in red zones, who treat those ill with Covid.

"In essence, we have our task and we feel very disappointed when we are unable to get through to a number of people. It's obviously not possible to get through to some people," says Jankovic.
