The number of patients in hospitals in the Covid system in Belgrade is growing once again. The commander of the VMC (Military Medical Clinic) Karaburma, Ivo Udovicic, told RTS that the numbers show that the epidemic is far from calming and ending. He pointed out that it is worrying that Covid hospitals are being filled with patients, and said that we must respect protective measures.

There are currently 82 patients in that hospital, seven of whom are on ventilators.

"Unfortunately, the hospital is full, and the latest figures indicate that the epidemic is far, far from calming down and from ending."

Udovicic said that there are patients who are 20 and 30 years old, that most of them are between 40 and 60 years old, but that there are many who are older than 70 and who are bed-ridden.

"We have one patient who is in intensive care, in a difficult condition, we are fighting to save his life. 40 years old, a young man, he took care of himself on Mt. Koponik, but... not sufficiently. We must be careful, we must take care of where we go, with whom we are in contact," said Udovicic.

Among the patients, there are also those who became infected between receiving two doses (of the vaccine).

"One of the reasons for the increase in the number of patients is that people relaxed as the vaccination took off. It's good to have such mass vaccination, but the first dose does not provide 100 percent protection. Only 14 to 21 days after the second dose, it can be said that someone will not get a more severe form of Covid," said Udovicic.

Before the upcoming holiday (Serbian Statehood Day), Udovicic appealed on the state and citizens to be more careful.

"Don't let a moment or a couple of hours of some pleasure make your whole life worse," Udovicic warned.
