Serbia's jewel whose tourist potential is underused: Get to know Lake Bor
One of the artificial lakes in our country is located in the immediate vicinity of the town of Bor, in eastern Serbia.
A dam was built in 1959 and Lake Bor was formed afterwards. The Brestovacka River flows out of it, and is supplied by water from a part of the Zlotska River basin, as well as from the small river Valja Zoni, and the Marecova River.
The primary purpose of this lake was to supply the Copper Mining and Smelting Basin in Bor. It soon turned out that the lake itself had significant tourist potential.
52 meters is the greatest depth of this lake that is located at 438 meters above sea level.
Average summer temperatures of Lake Bor water range from 25 to 26 degrees centigrade, making it a great option for vacation.
Lake Bor as a tourist destination
Although many residents of Bor and the surrounding villages make abundant use of the benefits of the lake, its tourist potentials are actually much greater.
There are four larger beaches on Lake Bor, but also numerous smaller ones, and there is lifeguard service on the main beach during the summer season. There is also plenty of entertainment content during the season on that beach, so visitors can rent pedal boats and boats, and additionally enjoy Lake Bor.
There is also a hotel that has courts for various sports, such as tennis, football, volleyball, basketball and handball, along with trim trails running around the entire lake.
Those with a passion for fishing also have the opportunity to enjoy themselves here, since Lake Bor is rich in numerous species of fish, such as catfish, carp, perch, silver carp, bream and others. Considering that large carps are often caught, it's no surprise that many people who like fishing also like to go to this lake.
As far as accommodation capacities are concerned, apart from the hotel, there is also a car campsite near Lake Bor, while visitors can also rent rooms and apartments, as well as entire houses directly from their owners.
Lake Bor is also attractive during winter months, as it often freezes over completely.
