Loncar: Measures are not respected enough, hence these numbers. Covid to be under control by summer
Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar said that revaccination with the Chinese vaccine officially started today and that it will take place at 200 designated locations. He spoke from the Torlak Institute for Virology, Vaccines and Serums, and stressed that if we continue vaccination at this pace, we can bring the virus under control by the summer.
"We continue to procure the vaccines, you saw that additional quantities have arrived. This morning, 50,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine arrived. Most importantly, I think that citizens have understood the importance of vaccination, if we continue like this, and be responsible, and what is important, there is no relaxation after the first dose. Another dose must be taken to have a maximum amount of antibodies. We don't win the battle with the first dose of the vaccine," said Loncar, adding:
"If we continue like this, we can achieve the goal by the summer and put coronavirus under control. We'll be able to go on vacation. It depends on us, we have a chance, we are on the right path and we should do it. Once again, my immense gratitude to all medical workers, thanks to the bishop, the provincial secretary Zoran Gojkovic, who is taking care of Vojvodina."
Loncar said that 557,000 citizens have been vaccinated so far.
"When you see that you have more than half a million vaccinated people, that's a sign of the kind of quality it is. We have to go on," said Loncar.
He said that we could be closer to knowing when can start with the production of the Sputnik V vaccine on Friday afternoon, when a group of Russian experts is coming to Serbia.
" I think about 20 of their people are coming. Some assessments are that we could enter production in two to three months, and it takes six months to start making the vaccine. Friday and Saturday are the days when we should have all the information. We bought the machines that are necessary. And for the first phase, we need them to tell us what kind of packaging should come out, and then get that. We have the devices, we have the bottles, they just need to tell us about that marking of bottles," said Minister Loncar, who today got revaccinated, just like Provincial Secretary Gojkovic.
He also said that the anti-epidemic measures are not respected enough.
"We still have quite a large number of infected people. Such results mean that the measures are not respected enough. We will first analyze the situation at the meeting of the Crisis HQ, and we will see. Days like Sretenje (Statehood Day) are ahead of us. There will be many people on Mt. Kopaonik, on Zlatibor. You heard Goran Stevanovic say that many people who went to Koponik became infected and infected others. We must do everything necessary to prevent that," Zlatibor Loncar pointed out.
A bishop who was also at Torlak deeply thanked the Serbian people for vigilantly guarding their health.
"Health is the greatest treasure that God has given to humans. Only thanks to the willingness to help them. Thank God, considering what we are going through, what challenges. From the bottom of my heart, I thank our people who know how to respect all those who care about their health, especially doctors. Thank you to everyone who works in that field, may God give you health," said the bishop.
