Vesic expects cafes to stay open until 10 pm as of next week. "People must be able to earn wages"

Deputy Mayor of Belgrade Goran Vesic expects that opening hours of hospitality establishments will be extended until 10 pm next week, because, as he pointed out, vaccination is already being carried out in Serbia and there is no dramatic jump in the number of new coronavirus cases.

"I hope it will happen, because I think too much time has passed. We are a country that is already vaccinating its population and where there is no dramatic jump in the number of infected people. We managed to find a balance between letting the economy work and protecting health, and I expect that opening hours will be extended next week," said Vesic.

He also said that this is not only a health crisis, but also an economic and social one, and added that one cannot be adopting only measures related to health.

"There are 40,000 people working in the services sector in Belgrade, and those people should be able to earn their wages and support their families. Therefore, we will insist that the opening hours be extended," he added.

Protective measures that are currently in force mean that hospitality establishments must close by 8 pm.
