Only 4,000 foreigners got vaccinated in Serbia - 0.8 percent of the total number of vaccinations
Foreigners live and work in Serbia, and have the right to be vaccinated against coronavirus here - however, according to the priorities defined by the state, and they still make up only about 0.8 percent of the total number of people vaccinated so far in this country, says the director of the Serbian Government's Office for IT and eGovernment, Mihailo Jovanovic.
Jovanovic told Tanjug that the system for expressing interest in vaccination against Covid 19 has been created so that Serbian citizens, foreigners who reside in Serbia, and even foreigners who do not have residence in Serbia can apply through the portal, because the intention was to monitor through the system everyone who potentially wanted to be vaccinated.
"So far, more than 8,000 foreigners have applied, and about 4,000 of them have been vaccinated, which is only 0.8 percent of the total number of people vaccinated so far," said Jovanovic.
He pointed out that regardless of whether they are citizens of Serbia or foreigners, everyone is being invited for vaccination according to the criteria prescribed by the Institute of Public Health of Serbia "Dr. Milan Jovanovic Batut."
The top priority are healthcre workers and people over the age of 75, then the age group of citizens from 65 to 74, those who have multiple other diseases, educators...
"Foreigners work here, live here and have the right to be vaccinated, but according to the priorities defined by the state of Serbia," said Jovanovic.
Commenting on the claims by some media that foreigners come to Serbia and get vaccinated by paying 70 euros, he said that this was "absolutely impossible" and that such information was wrong and is damaging to the image of Serbia's "top-notch vaccination procedure."
"The fact that 0.8 percent of citizens who have been vaccinated so far are foreigners speaks volumes to that point," he said and pointed out that vaccination in Serbia is free of charge.
Speaking about the immunization in Serbia of Croatian author Vedrana Rudan, which caused controversy on social networks, Jovanovic said that all those who applied through eUprava, and who perform some activity in Serbia, regardless of whether they are citizens of Serbia, can be invited for vaccination, appropriate to the priority group to which they belong.
"Citizens should not be concerned, there is enough vaccines and everyone will receive an invitation. The system established by the Government of Serbia is objective, and citizens are invited in accordance with their choice of vaccine, but also based on the criteria prescribed by the Batut Institute and the Ministry of Health," said Jovanovic.
