The director of the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, Danica Grujicic, said today that oncology patients who are on radiation therapy should consult with their chosen doctors about receiving the coronavirus vaccine.

Grujicic told RTS said that all oncology patients who have beaten any malignant disease or are now in a calm phase can freely receive any vaccine against Covid.

"Those who are receiving therapy or waiting for surgery should talk to their oncologist whether to get vaccinated now, because these are specific cases and each one is different. They should do what their doctor thinks is correct," Grujicic pointed out.

She stressed that those patients who receive chemotherapy have weakened, declining immunity,  so administering the vaccine to them could be "pointless."

Grujicic also revealed that last year, some form of cancer was diagnosed in 27,500 citizens in Serbia.
