Serbia remembers: Vucic reacts on International Holocaust Remembrance Day

International Holocaust Remembrance Day is marked today, January 27, in memory of the day when the Soviet Red Army liberated Auschwitz-Birkenau, the most notorious death camp in enslaved Europe, at the end of the Second World War in 1945.

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic posted on this occasion on his Instagram profile.

With the post Vucic reminded of this day and the need to pay tribute to the victims, and wrote:

Suzana Paunovic, as President Aleksandar Vucic's envoy, will lay a wreath today at the Monument to the Victims of Second World War Genocide, located at the Old Fairgrounds in Belgrade.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day was established on November 1, 2005 by a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly.

Deciding to pick the day when Auschwitz was liberated in 1945, the UN General Assembly was guided by the need to reaffirm human rights, prevent and punish the crime of genocide, as well as the ever-present dangers of racial, ethnic and religious hatred based on prejudice.
