Ramzi Azemi of the KPS ("Kosovo police") Investigation Unit told a news conference that Kosovo police had begun investigating the scene and possible witnesses to the crime.

"Our focus was on the examination of the scene in order to find any evidence from the scene. The teams are still investigating the scene and we are in the initial phase of the investigation," said Azemi.

He added that what is known for now is that three victims were found in the house, and one in the yard, and that it is suspected that the man first killed his wife and sons, and then killed himself in front of the house.

Gnjilane regional police spokesman Ismet Hashani said the killings shocked the entire region, not just the locals.

"The police station in Vitina was informed at around 6 pm that gunshots had been heard. The police immediately went to the scene and realized that it was a murder, which they informed all relevant units that immediately arrived at the scene," said Hasani, reports Kosovo Online.
