Slovenia ready for new measures: Closing the border is one of the options
Slovenian healthcare authorities are monitoring the situation and will propose appropriate new measures, including the closing of borders, after a new strain of the coronavirus was confirmed in the UK.
The government will decide on new measures proposed by its medical working group, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia announced.
Prime Minister Janez Jansa wrote on Twitter last night that Slovenia has "prepared measures for closing the border, because there is a chance that the mutated virus is present in some other EU countries as well," STA reports.
The agency said that according to several media reports, at least one case of a mutated strain has been confirmed in Italy in a man who recently arrived from Britain and who is now in quarantine.
Planes currently don't fly between Slovenia and the UK, while according to existing quarantine rules, new arrivals from that country are required to produce a negative Covid 19 test or quarantine for ten days.
