Minister of Health Zlatibor Loncar said today that the healthcare system of Serbia has not collapsed and that it is fighting with "supreme strength," urging unity in respecting anti-Covid measures during the crisis.

"The greatest result would be produced by unity, to unite and refrain from contacts," Loncar told RTS.

He said that healtcareh workers should be left to fight for people's lives and do their job, and that there will be time for analyses and condemnations.

He stated that everything in the new hospital in Batajnica started functioning in record time and that best experts work there, while most of that hospital has been put into operation, including intensive and semi-intensive care units and all devices.

Loncar said that the system did not collapse, that it is fighting with superior strength, as more than 400 patients were in the hospital in Batajnica this morning where they had all the medicines and means for treatment.

Loncar said that Serbia is convincingly admitting the highest number of patients to hospitals compared to the region, and the rest of Europe as well.

"We receive up to 39 percent of patients and that is why people die the least, because we start with therapy in time, we have a problem when patients who report late, and we are also caring for patients who are not positive," stated Loncar and added that young staff and students are being trained.

Loncar said that 376 examinations have been performed at the Infectious Diseases Clinic in Belgrade, of which 154 during the night.

"That is another reason why a hospital was opened in Batajnica, where you can see how much has already been done in this short amount of time, how much it works, how many lives it has saved," said Loncar.
