The government of the unilaterally declared institutions in Pristina will set aside 20 million euros for the defense of all those who will face indictments by the Specialist Chambers (special court) in The Hague, set up to prosecute members of the former KLA who committed war crimes in Kosovo.

This was stated by Minister of Justice Selim Selimi, who added that seven million have been set aside for the protection of potential indictees, while 13 million will be kept as a reserve.

Selimi signed three administrative instructions to help potential indictees in The Hague.

"Out of these 20 million, funds will be set aside for their protection, funds will be set aside to support their families, which is provided for in another instruction which concerns their travels, visits, etc. And last but not least, for those who are released, compensation is provided for their acquittal," Selimi told the Pristina media.

In 2015, the Assembly of so-called Kosovo voted to establish the Specialist Chambers within the Kosovo judicial system, while adopting a law on financial support for defendants and members of their immediate families, including travel expenses, when proceedings are conducted outside Kosovo.
