"Hospital capacities may be running out or gone": Students join the fight as well

Director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic Goran Stevanovic said today after a meeting between directors of Covid hospitals and the minister of health that the number of those hospitalized is increasing, and that there are still hospital capacities. However, he said, they are not inexhaustible, which is why it is likely that in some near future the capacities will be nearly all used up or insufficient.

"New hospitals are being included, we still have enough hospital capacities. Patients are redistributed according to the clinical picture, transport possibilities and capacity availability. It's higly likely that in some future, these capacities will be running out or that they will be gone," Stevanovic said in his live address, adding an appeal to citizens to respect the measures, reduce contacts and wear masks.

He explained that this would be possible if the number of patients continues to increase at this rate, and added that the assessment can be made locally, and that some measures can be initiated locally.

"As health workers in the Covid system, we cannot order measures. The measures show a tendency of a tiny slowdown in the number of new cases," he said, noting that it is necessary for all of us to get involved.

Director of the Center for Anesthesiology of the Clinical Center of Serbia Professor. Dr. Nebojsa Ladjevic said that protocols in each city are the same and that patients are treated in the same way.

He added that the staff is being redistributed every day, and that final-year students will be involved in the fight against coronavirus, as well as that those attending specialist studies will work in Covid hospitals.
