Vesic speaks after ban on entering Kosovo and Metohija: We'll continue to help our people in Kosovo

Deputy Mayor of Belgrade Goran Vesic confirmed for TV Prva that a Belgrade delegation, which was on its way to Kosovska Mitrovica, was stopped by the Kosovo police. As he explained, they were met by two SUVs of the Kosovo police and their notification, which said he was banned from entering Kosovo and Metohija because of a threat to national security.

"The delegation of the City of Belgrade was going to Kosovska Mitrovica to sign the Charter on the Twinning between Belgrade and Kosovska Mitrovica, as well as to visit works on two facilities that the City of Belgrade is building. These are a building to house about 40 refugees families, expelled from other parts of Kosovo and Metohija, and a park for children. With this they clearly showed how much they respect the Brussels agreement and how they treat Serbs, because obviously children in Kosovska Mitrovica are not allowed to have a park or a playground given to them by the City of Belgrade, nor do refugees have the right to a roof over their heads. That is the clear message they showed us today," Vesic pointed out.

He added that this is what cooperation based on the Brussels agreement should look like, to which they (Pristina) committed themselves, just as they committed themselves to forming the Community of Serb Municipalities (ZSO).

The deputy mayor recalled that the Belgrade delegation announced itself duly, according to all regulations, as well as that its arrival was also announced in the media.

"This is the third or fourth time in the last few months that I am visiting Kosovo and Metohija and that the City of Belgrade is trying to help our areas there. They probably expected us to make some incident, although the policemen were more than fair and apologized. It just goes to show that ordinary people want cooperation. If Hoti wanted to build a children's playground in Presevo, we would not have prevented it because we believe that it's normal to build children's playgrounds," Vesic stressed and added that a message was sent today that cities in Serbia must not cooperate with cities in Kosovo and Metohija.

He said that the City of Belgrade will certainly sign the charter on twinning, if not in Kosovska Mitrovica, then in Belgrade.

"We will continue to build the building and the children's playground and we will continue to help our people. Whether I will be able to come or not is less important, but we will be present in any case. They cannot stop us from helping Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija," Vesic stressed.
