Patriarch Irinej's condition deteriorates

The general condition of Patriarch Irinej deteriorated during the night, the Serbian Orthodox Church has announced.

"The permanent council of doctors, in the presence of doctors from the RF (Russian Federation) is monitoring the general and clinical condition of His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch Mr. Irinej. The public will continue to be informed about the health of His Holiness," it is stated in the announcement.

Patriarch Irinej has been in the Military Hospital in Karaburma since November 5, where he was admitted after it was confirmed that he tested positive for coronavirus.

His blood oxygen level dropped during the night.

Previously, on Tuesday, after reviewing his general condition and the course of treatment so far, the medical council concluded that the treatment implemented had led to a stabilization of his chronic heart disease.

However, the patriarch's health deteriorated again after that.
