Patient infected with Covid attacks medical staff in Nis: Punches and kicks them before running away
A 64-year-old patient treated for Covid-19 at the Nis Clinical Center today assaulted the medical staff in this healthcare institution.
As we have learned, the incident happened around 11 o'clock in the intensive care unit of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases.
"The patient, in a visibly agitated state, tore off the equipment to which he was connected, and then attacked the doctors and nurses, punching and kicking them. After that, he started running towards the exit of the clinic, but thanks to the security service and medical staff's intervention, he was subdued and brought back to the intensive care unit without injuries," our sources familiar with this case said.
Fortunately, none of the medical staff was seriously injured, while a psychiatrist was called to the clinic to provide the necessary assistance to the patient who attacked them.
The management of the Nis Clinical Center condemned this incident in the strongest terms.
"At a time when medical staff invests superhuman efforts in order to save lives and preserve the health of the population, such events are impermissible. While understanding the patient's disease and the consequences caused by the drop in the saturation in the blood due to the coronavirus infection, we must point out that such behavior is extremely unacceptable. We appeal on citizens to show understanding and respect for what these people, who are risking their lives and their health in order to save theirs, are doing," this healthcare institution stated.
The police have also been informed about this event.
