Members of the Crisis HQ for the fight against coronavirus, meeting in a slightly changed composition, held a session that started exactly at noon today in the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade. They assessed the current and worsening epidemiological situation, and proposed new measures.

As we have learned unofficially, the Crisis HQ proposed today that the gathering of more than five people should banned, both indoors and outdoors. This means that the number of people indoors would be reduced from 30 to 5.

Tanjug is reporting that high school student will also be on a break starting next week.

Today is exactly 8 months since oronavirus arrived in our country, and Serbia is in the third wave, in which all records are being broken.

Based on statements by epidemiologists in the previous two or three days, it was expected that business hours of hospitality establishments would be shortened, that cinemas and theaters would be temporarily closed, as well as that it was possible to extend the fall school break. The media also speculated that it was possible to temporarily close kindergartens.

Member of the Crisis HQ Professor Dr. Branislav Tiodorovic, an epidemiologist, said yesterday that, when the number of newly infected persons exceeds 2,000, which happened in Serbia, the only effective measure is to close all hospitality establishments after 9 pm and limit the gathering to a maximum of five people. His colleague Dr. Predrag Kon, also a member of the HQ, pointed out that the epidemiological situation is deteriorating and that it is moving from unfavorable towards an emergency one, and that mass gatherings and risky contacts should be avoided.

The story about the extension of the fall break was launched by Minister of Education Branko Ruzic who said on Wednesday that the Crisis HQ would be asked to possibly extend the fall break for primary school children.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, who is at the head of the HQ, also said on Wednesday that there are no plans to strengthen the measures at the moment, and that it would be wrong to close the schools now.

In Serbia, the number of new coronavirus cases on Wednesday exceeded 2,000 in 24 hours for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic- 2,412 new cases were recorded, based on 12,617 people tested, while 2,181 new cases out of 12,480 tested were confirmed on Thursday.

Since the beginning of the epidemic until today, Covid 19 has been confirmed in 55,676 people, out of a total of 1,388,716 tested. Coronavirus has so far taken 861 lives in Serbia.

Currently, 2,125 patients are hospitalized, of which 57 breathe with the help of mechanical ventilation.

Today's session of the Crisis HQ was held in a slightly changed composition, considering that in the meantime, Serbia got a new government, so now all the new ministers are members of the HQ.
