In Serbia, men are easier to catch cheating, especially if they fall into a "honey trap"
As family values get shaken in modern society - romantic relationships are often reduced to passion, while marriages end in affairs - private agencies are recording an increasing number of calls from worried women and men who want to check on their partner. If you suspected your partner was cheating on you - would you hire a private detective to find out the truth?
Believe it or not, many in Serbia decide to do that. Nikola Novak, the owner of the detective agency "Anonimus" ("Anonymous"), revealed for Telegraf what it actually looks like when you hire a detective to follow your partner.
"When it comes to adultery cases, numbers are similar regardless of gender or age. We are hired by wives, husbands, fiancés and fiancées, girls and boys, and even mothers-in-law who want to check on their daughters-in-law, or best men/women. It also happens that someone is investigating and checking on a potential future romantic partner, they simply want to know who they are dealing with and whether to go deeper into the story with them or not, which depends on what our investigation will reveal," said the owner of the detective agency.
Novak says that people often bring their partner to take a lie detector test, in order to check who they are entering into a relationship with. They often examine that person's past or are interested in whether their partner has cheated on them.
Although Nikola has worked on over 4,000 cases in his career, he did not want to jeopardize the privacy of his clients by speaking publicly about their cases. Still, he told us about one truly movie-like event that took place recently.
"A man came to our agency wanting to check on his wife. We soon learned that the woman hired colleagues from another agency to check on him. We all know each other and cooperate, so our colleagues immediately informed us as soon as they saw him coming to our agency, so we refused the job under false pretenses. But imagine that situation - the wife monitors the husband, and at the same time, the husband monitors the wife. Unbelievable!," says Nikola.
The official website of the agency offers a service called "Honey Trap." We were interested in learning what that means, exactly.
"It's a method and a term that is taken from the intelligence world in which an intelligence agent, usually a woman, aims to 'drag' the target to bed in order to get the necessary information from them. This is, by the way, the method by which KGB agents obtained information about the atomic bomb. What we do in the agency is a far milder and a modified version of that method. So, if someone wants to check on their romantic partner, they hire us. At an opportune moment, which means that the person has gone out, to a club, an attractive person of the opposite sex who works for us will try to court them. The goal is just to get the phone number of the person being checked. We hand it over to the person who hired us as evidence, and that's where our engagements ends," Novak explained for us.
The agency owner stressed that they usually do not advise this service because it is based on provocation at a time when someone is at their weakest, most relaxed, and has maybe even had a drink or two with friends. However, the positive side is that if a person passes that test, you can be sure they are faithful to you.
Nikola sticks to the slogan that it is always better to find out the truth than to live a lie.
"If you have suspicions and it bothers you, it's always better to check and find out the truth. The real truth, no matter how terrible, will give you peace," he says.
The owner of the agency, although he did not want to reveal the prices of his services to us, admitted that hiring a detective is not cheap and that it is something for those with a "deep pockets."
"The job is very difficult, stressful and risky, so the price is in accordance with that," he said.
A very interesting fact that Nikola shared with us is that it is easier to catch men than women cheating.
"Generally speaking, it is easier and faster to catch men committing adultery than it is women. Over 80 percent of the men we catch cheating are those who are undergoing the so-called midlife crisis and then start behaving like teenagers, start going to the gym again, buying sports cars, spending money on nonsense and, of course, on young girls. Men at that age lose control of themselves,'fall in love' and then it's easy to catch them. Women, on the other hand, do it far more perfidiously, they are more careful, they are calculated, and we have to wait for them longer and do it all more carefully if we want to reach the final result unnoticed," concluded Nikola Novak.
