"We exchanged opinions on all regional topics": Covic on meeting with Vucic and Dodik in Belgrade
HDZ BiH (Croatian Democratic Party of Bosnia-Herzegovina) President Dragan Covic, who spoke with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Serb member of BiH Presidency Milorad Dodik in Belgrade last night, did not wish to comment on Sarajevo's claims that a "Serb-Croat unification is at work" because such remarks, as he said, are common.
Covic told Fena agency that the meeting in Belgrade was friendly, held over a working dinner.
"We exchanged opinions about the state of European integration in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also on all regional topics," said Covic, who is also the deputy chairman of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.
If they did not meet, then some people would be complaining about that, he added.
"The assessment was to meet and talk," said Covic and added that he would not mind if Vucic and (Bakir) Izetbegovic or someone else met tomorrow.
He pointed out that the visit to Belgrade was very transparent and announced in advance.
Covic said that, as th HDZ leader, he informed his interlocutors about preparations for local elections.
"We expect victory in all areas where Croats are the majority. Vucic is interested in a lot of things in BiH, because he has many ties with BiH, starting from his roots onwards. It was a friendly conversation that in no way tarnishes relations between the three peoples in BiH. It is known that he stands for equality of the constituent peoples in BiH, their legitimate representation, respect of the Dayton Agreement," Covic pointed out.
According to him, the concept of regional talks should continue and can bring a good result for everyone in BiH.
"We need to have all our neighbors on our side. If we want to do something useful in the foreign policy of BiH, we must know that our reach is not great and that it should primarily be about good neighborly policy when it comes to all three neighbors. We must never underestimate that, because we have problems in conducting foreign policy," Covic said, among other remarks.
The leader of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), Bakir Izetbegovic criticized the meeting between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Serb member of the BiH Presidency Milorad Dodik and Deputy Speaker of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly Dragan Covic, saying it was wrong of President Vucic not to invite a Bosniak political representative from BiH.
