Signed: Chinese will build Fruska Gora corridor, Serbia getting another connectivity "lifeblood"
The Government of Serbia and the Chinese company CRBC signed a contract today to build the Fruska Gora corridor from Novi Sad to Ruma, whose total value is 606 million euros.
The contract was signed by Minister Zorana Mihajlovic and the director of the Chinese company, Zhang Xiaoyuan, while the ceremony in the Presidency of Serbia was attended by President Aleksandar Vucic and Chinese Ambassador Chen Bo.
"Today is an important day for us and I am proud that we signed this contract. This road will enable easier connectivity for both Novi Sad residents and the people of Srem (region)," said Vucic.
According to him, Serbia asked the EU for a 50 percent grant for the construction of the Belgrade-Nis high-speed railway, and pointed out that if that is rejected, we will build that railway with the Chinese CRBC.
Vucic said that the company made a good offer for the construction of the high-speed railway between Belgrade and Nis.
He stressed that the value of that investment is two billion euros, and that trains would travel on this railway at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour. The president pointed out that it would take an hour and 15 minutes to get from Belgrade to Nis.
"This corridor has been talked about for decades, and we completed negotiations, we will complete the design and technical documentation by the end of the year and we will start the works next year," Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction Zorana Mihajlovic said earlier.
The value of the contract signed with CRBC is 606 million euros.
The Fruska Gora corridor will officially be a express road from Ruma to Novi Sad in the length of 47.7 kilometers, which will connect to the highways leading towards Sid and Subotica.
In mid-September, the Serbian government approved a contract to build the corridor, including a 3.5-kilometer tunnel through Mt. Fruska Gora, which will be the longest tunnel in Serbia. Also, another 1.8-kilometer-long bridge over the Danube will be built.
The highway Preljina-Pozega on Corridor 11, the Morava Corridor, i.e. the highway from Preljina to Pojate, the highway toward Sarajevo from Kuzmin to Sremska Raca, the highway Ruma-Sabac and the express road Sabac-Loznica, as well as the highway at the end of the bypass around Belgrade from Ostruznica to Bubanj Potok are all currently being built in Serbia.
The construction of the Fruska Gora corridor is important, because it extends the Ruma-Sabac-Loznica direction. The Fruska Gora corridor will connect three municipalities: Novi Sad, Irig and Ruma, and will also solve the problem of the passage of trucks through Fruska Gora and through Irig.
