Horror in Belgrade: Librarian buried dead cats on balcony, 1,300 bags of garbage taken out of flat
A woman, G.K., and her daughter recently moved out of Borivoja Stevanovica Street in Belgrade's Medak 3 neighborhood and left behind a 4-bedroom apartment resembling a garbage dump, while a Belgrade investor agreed to renovate this problematic property.
Namely, this woman was allegedly burying dead cats in a flower box on the balcony of the apartment, while feeding herself and her daughter with leftovers collected from dumpsters.
On the seventh floor of this building, residents showed the broken door to the apartment, out of which unbearable stench emanated as derelict rooms stood covered in thick cobwebs and hardened dirt, writes the daily Alo.
"A librarian and her 30-year-old daughter lived in that apartment. She was burying corpses of cats in a large concrete flower box on the balcony of the apartment, and kept leftovers in bags that she had been hauling out of dumpsters for years. Some residents tried contacting every kind of service over the last 12 years, but no one wanted to solve the problem.
"A neighbor, who lives one floor below, finally managed to find an investor who agreed to buy this apartment, which, without exaggeration, looks like a set for a horror movie. The two of them received a 36-square-meter apartment in Mali Mokri Lug," said one of the residents in this building and added that the cleaning operation lasted for days, but that the renovation is yet to be done.
"1,300 bags of garbage were taken out of the apartment! Supposedly 30 dead cats were found, but I did not see them. Garbage removal cost around 400,000 dinars! The cleaners took pictures of the horrible scenes with their phones, but I didn't have the stomach to watch that. The whole building was disinfected four times, because of the corpses of animals and a bunch of bugs that were found inside," says the neighbor.
"I have been subletting in this building for two years. We spray disinfected the apartment several times because of cockroaches, which were coming out of the garbage in the apartment! I had no contact with that woman. Sometimes I'd come across her in the hallway," said one young man, while another neighbor claims that the librarian comes from a respectable family, the paper writes.
Aparment filled with garbage
"I heard that her parents and husband were painters. I don't know what happened to her, but she suddenly broke down mentally and started pulling garbage out of dumpsters," an older woman told us briefly, adding that it was good that the problem was finally solved.
In a store located on the ground floor of the building, journalists learned that the woman who found a buyer for the apartment has the most credit for solving the problem.
"The librarian and her daughter did not even have ID cards. Everything was done by their first-door neighbor, who got in touch with the investor. Now they have finally been appointed a guardian as well," said the storekeeper, who insisted on anonymity, this newspaper writes.
