Former Partizan footballer remanded in custody 30 more days: Malbasa is suspected of stabbing a man

The Higher Court in Belgrade has extended former Partizan FC player Nikola Malbasa's detention for another 30 days. Malbasa is suspected of stabbing Igor Neskovic with a knife on July 8, inflicting severe, life-threatening bodily injuries on him.

His detention was extended as he has been assessed as a flight risk, to prevent him from influencing Neskovic, as well as so that he would not repeat or complete the crime, court spokeswoman Tatjana Tesic explained for Tanjug.

According to this decision, Malbasa's detention can last until October 17, after which the court will once again consider the reasons for extending it.

Malbasa is accused of attempted murder.

He denied committing the crime during the questioning in the prosecutor's office at the end of July.

As announced by the prosecution at the time, the former football player is suspected of deliberately trying to take the life of the victim in his car, when he on July 8 inflicted several severe bodily injuries on him.

The former footballer was on the run for about ten days before he was arrested.
