"Dress and slippers left on shore, my son crying": Testimony of mother whose girl drowned in Tisa

At around 4:30 on Monday, Gendarmerie divers found the body of 7-year-old Orhideja T. from Backo Petrovo Selo, who disappeared in the Tisa River on Sunday afternoon.

According to the testimony of her 6-year-old brother K.S., who was with her at the time of her disappearance, the girl jumped into the river.

"I was hoping they would find my daughter alive. The son says that they were sitting in two red boats near the shore and that Orhideja jumped in. However, it's strange that no one saw it. It happened on Sunday around 1:30 pm. When I arrived at the Tisa, my son was crying terribly. Unfortunately, nobody was there in that part of the Tisa where the sign says it's dangerous to swim," the mother, Reveneta Tot (30), said through tears, and added that her daughter went to the Tisa on a bicycle.

"The son jumped out of the window (of the house), they went to the Tisa together, the daughter rode the bike. They left around 10, and I went to the playground to look for them. I searched for them until 13:30, the only place I didn't look was the Tisa. When I got home, a man came to tell me that my daughter was missing. Then we went to the Tisa and there I found a dress, slippers and a t-shirt," Reveneta told Novosti and added that Orhideja had run away from home several times before.

"She would leave because I didn't let her go to the playground alone. I learned that she didn't go to school on Thursday, but instead went to the Tisa. I have five children, three daughters and two boys. Orhideja is the oldest, and the youngest child is three months old. I live alone with them, my husband works in Germany. Orhideja's father died two years ago," says the inconsolable mother.

She said that the children cycled to the Tisa on their own several times before, which is 3 to 4 kilometers away from their house, and that the place where they bathed was located 200 meters from the beach.

The girl was found near the boat in which she was playing with her 6-year-old brother.
