Remember the Serbian who rescued 12 boys from a cave in Thailand? He is very happy today
A diver of Serbian origin, Ivan Karadzic, was decorated by the Thai king with the Knight's Cross, 1st class for participating in an operation to rescue 12 young football players and their coach from the Tham Luang cave.
"I'm very grateful to His Royal Highness the King of Thailand for considering me for this honor.A thank you to the government of Thailand for allowing me to live in this beautiful country," Karadzic wrote on Facebook.
He also thanked his girlfriend for her support, as well as thousands of volunteers, navy divers and rescuers who took part in the rescue operation in the Tham Luang cave.
"Proud, so very proud," Karadzic wrote and shared photos from the ceremony at which he was presented with the decoration.
Divers in northern Thailand rescued all 12 boys and their coach from the flooded cave in 2018, 17 days after they got trapped underground.
The accident involving the young football players and the risky rescue operation attracted attention of the entire world at that time.
