First planes could take off from airport in Trebinje, that Serbia is building, in two years
A location is being set aside for the future airport in Trebinje, (in RS, Bosnia and Herzegovina) and if a decision is made regarding the location in the next two or three weeks, the first plane from the new airport could take off in 2022, said Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic.
Ahead of tomorrow's meeting between President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, and Serb member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik, she assessed that the most important thing for that investment is that the decision on the construction of the airport in Trebinje has been made.
"People from both ministries looked at all the locations, one stands out. I would not now say publicly which one, because it is still on the table as a topic that should be decided on," she said.
She added that, if in the next two or three weeks a decision is made on the location itself, that is right in relation to all other cities in Bosnia but also in the region itself, it's possible to expect designs, final documentation and expropriation in 2021.
"The first plane from Trebinje airport could take off in 2022. Estimates say it would be very economically viable, as it can expect to serve 50,000 passengers in the first year. And the estimated investment is around 50 million euros," she said.
She added that in the coming days, an agreement will be reached on the construction of that airport.
As Mihajlovic pointed out, the idea to build this airport came about because of the good relations between the two leaders, as well as the desire for the region to be well connected.
