Who will be in government's team for protection of Serbian shrines?
The government of Serbia, with the support of the Serbian Orthodox Church, will form a special team for the protection of Serbian, that is, Christian spiritual heritage in those areas where the Serb people live. The president's Secretary General Nikola Selakovic says that the team will include professionals, historians, art historians and others who can contribute with their work.
The task of the team will be to work on the protection of cultural, historical and spiritual heritage, everything that the people refer to as shrines, where they are physically or legally endangered, in terms of identity, originality, and origin, Selakovic told RTS.
Selakovic said that there will be opportunities for hiring certain personalities and experts by invitation, because, as he stated, not every shrine is the same.
He remarked that this field is so wide and that the state has in the past paid either none or insufficient attention to these issues.
When asked about the construction of a road near the monastery of Visoki Decani (in Kosovo and Metohija), Selakovic replied that the president specifically said he would make it one of the most important topics during the renewed talks in Brussels.
"It is our job to alert the public and talk about it internationally, not only domestically," said Selakovic.
He also recalled that during his visit to the Vatican, President Vucic gifted the pope with a monograph about the Cathedral Church of St. Nicholas (Sv. Nikola) in Novo Brdo, at a time when the question of the identity of that church was being brought up.
"We came out with a serious scientific expertise prepared in advance," said Selakovic.
He pointed out that things of this nature will be done in the future, and that professional and political public should be alerted to those places where the monuments of the Serbian cultural heritage are endangered.
"If the head of state sets a topic so high and gives it such a high importance, then it becomes an imperative for all state bodies," said the president's secretary general.
