Man who decided to put beach chairs in a spot where 2,764 Serbian soldiers lie buried reacts
After Telegraf's exclusive report about beach chairs being set up on the island of Vido, not far from the place where 2,764 known and unknown Serbian soldiers lie buried, the advisor to the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia, Spyros Neratzis, has reacted.
He, as the person in charge of the island of Vido, told the Greek Enimerosi that there is always respect for the Serbian mausoleum that is located on the island, as well as that Corfu has extraordinary ties with Serbia.
"There are no tourists on that small beach or economic activity by the municipality or any entrepreneur. This small beach is a traditional place visited by the inhabitants of Corfu, mostly elderly people who live in the city and have no opportunity to travel far."
As he says, they usually brought umbrellas and chairs with them in the past, so now the municiplality set up beach chairs to make the beach look decent and well-maintained.
"This year, we cleaned up and arranged the entire island and the area around the Mausoleum, including two large broken trees," he concluded, adding that he was surprised by the reports in the Serbian media.
