Elderly man, who assaulted nurse in Covid hospital in Nis, dies

S.K. (82), who assaulted nurse N.O. (32) at the Covid hospital of the Clinic for Rehabilitation of the Nis Clinical Center on July 30, passed away last night at this medical institution.

"His health condition deteriorated and despite the efforts of the doctors, a fatal outcome followed," said our sources familiar with this case.

As Telegraf.rs has already reported, the elderly man tried to leave the hospital by force, which was the cause of the incident.

"The nurse explained to him that due to his health condition, he had to stay and receive treatment, after which he went wild. He climbed on a radiator and opened the window, shouting that if he couldn't get out through the door, he would go out through the window. The concerned health worker managed to convince him to give up on his irrational intention, and put him back in bed. However, as soon as she turned her back on him, the patient grabbed his crutch and struck her with all the strength he had, once on the head and the second time across the ribs," our sources explain.

The Nis police confirmed this event and said that they had informed the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office.

As we have learned, it has been established that this was a criminal act involving light bodily injury, but now that the old man has passed away, the prosecution will suspend further activities in this case.

The Nis Clinical Center condemns attack on its nurse

"It is true that a health worker has been attacked in her workplace. It is an impermissible act, at a time when medical staff across the country risk their lives and health to help people suffering from Covid-19. We condemn this behavior and appeal on patients to help us so that everyone receives timely and adequate care," this health institution said.

The nurse who got attacked does not wish to comment on this event at the moment.

This is the second serious incident at the Nis hospital since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic. A local man, M.K. (27) was arrested on April 20 for violent behavior because he attacked medical workers and broke inventory.

He confessed to the crime before the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office, expressed remorse and apologized, and was released pending the continuation of the proceedings. A misdemeanor report was also filed against him for obstructing an official in the performance of official duties because during the intervention, he threatened the police officers and cursed them.
