The Ministry of Tourism of Montenegro today sent a proposal to the National Coordination Body for Infectious Diseases (NKT) to enable the arrival of Russian tourists in Montenegro, the CdM portal has learned unofficially.

According to the CdM, that request has been sent at the request of the tourist industry. The NKT could possibly make such a decision as part of softening of Covid-19 measures, especially in the field of tourism, which is most affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Montenegrin media previously reported that there is great interest among Russian citizens to spend their summer vacation in Montenegro, as evidenced by numerous calls to travel agencies and inquiries about the date borders will open.

According to MONSTAT data, there were 1,352,028 tourist arrivals in individual accommodation in 2019, while the number of overnight stays was 9,775,133.

Of that, 99.6 percent of overnight stays were realized by foreign tourists.

Russians were convincingly in the first place (29.1 percent), followed by citizens of Serbia - 25.3 percent, Bosnia and Herzegovina - 10.6 percent, so-called Kosovo - 6.9 percent, Ukraine - 3.8 percent, Germany - 3.2 percent and Poland -2.1 percent.
