3 most important things Serbia will finance in the RS: Not only the airport near Trebinje
Serbia is interested in building an airport near Trebinje, that it would manage for the next 30 to 35 years, announced the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic.
He pointed out that it would be important for both Serbia and the Serb Republic (RS, Serb entity in Bosnia and Herzegivina).
"We are thinking about building an airport in Herzegovina, between Trebinje, Bileca and Gacko, to manage it for 30, 35 years. It is a new project that we are embarking on, negotiations between the two governments on that project will begin. There is no profit in this project, but it is very important. The airport will be located somewhere near Trebinje, where there's room to build. We are ready to invest significant money and to employ people from the RS," Vucic pointed out and added that they also spoke about a highway and a new bridge.
He added that representatives of MTU, a German company that is starting the construction of an engine factory in Stara Pazova, told him that it was the only business that has enough work for 60 years.
On Monday, the team from Serbia will go there to see the location and where and when the airport could be built, he announced.
Vucic pointed out that Serbia invests in the RS, especially when it comes to subsidizing salaries and investing in infrastructure.
"If necessary, Serbia will provide an additional financial injection to the RS. It is our obligation to help as much as we can, preserving the best relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and respecting the Dayton Agreement," he stated.
In the past three years, he recalled, Serbia had earmarked 53.2 million euros.
Serbia is financing projects in 48 local self-government units in the RS, and almost in all local self-government units in other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina that have a Serb majority.
"Serbia has accepted the obligation to build a bridge over the Sava River on its own, and that costs 142 million euros. We are ready to take on the obligation to build a highway to Bijljina for the most part, thus connecting the second largest city in the RS with Belgrade and Novi Sad," he explained.
During the visit, President Vucic spoke with the top representatives of the RS.
