The National Coordination Body of Montenegro is considering the possibility of opening the border for citizens of Russia starting on August 1, Podgorica's Dnevne Novine writes today.

Referring to its information, the paper writes that such a possible decision would make tourism workers happy, and would come as part of measures to mitigate the consequences of coronavirus, especially in the field of tourism.

Going in favor of this thinking about opening the border is also information that Russia has been recording a significant drop in the number of infected people for days and that yesterday there was the least number of those infected with the virus in that country since April.

Whether such a decision will be made depends on a number of circumstances dictated by the COVID 19 pandemic, the paper writes.

The fact is, they say, that there is great interest among Russian citizens for vacationing in Montenegro, as evidenced by numerous calls to travel agencies and inquiries about the date the border will open.

Montenegro has opened its border to tourists from Ukraine and Belarus, while tourists are also arriving from Israel.

In 2019 there were 1,352,028 tourists in individual accommodation in Montenegro, while the number of overnight stays was 9,775,133.

Of that, 99.6 percent of overnight stays were realized by foreign tourists.

Convincingly in the first place were Russians (29.1 percent), followed by citizens of Serbia (25.3 percent), Bosnia and Herzegovina (10.6 percent), Kosovo (6.9 percent), Ukraine (3.8 percent), Germany (3.2 percent), Poland (2.1 percent).

Tourists from other countries amounted for 19 percent combined.
