Craziest theory about the undermining of Novak's tournament: Dimitrov, powerful companies, Federer
Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov has created real chaos in the tennis world after he announced that he was positive for coronavirus, just before the start of the Adria Tour final match in Zadar.
It turned out that he was suspicious since he arrived in Belgrade, where he mostly did not appear in the same places as Novak Djokovic and other tennis players, while also avoiding journalists and news conferences. The only exceptions was a show football match and a party after Adria Tour ended its Belgrade segment.
Dimitrov's behavior, as well as the record-breaking number of views on matches played during Novak's tournament in Belgrade and Zadar, raises suspicion that a powerful American lobby may be behind everything, for whom Novak has been a "thorn in their side" for years.
Grigor Dimitrov has powerful agents and strong companies behind him, from which he earns millions through sponsorship contracts. Although he is not in the top tier of tennis, the Bulgarian is attractive to many companies, both because of his physical appearance and his private life, as he has been in the past involved with Nicole Scherzinger, Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams.
That, along with good results when he reached the 3rd place on the ATP list, brought him lucrative contracts. Today, Dimitrov actually lives from those contracts, because he has not achieved a noteworthy result in tennis this year, except for the semifinals in Acapulco. He lost in the second round of the Australian Open, in Montpellier at the very start, in Rotterdam also in the 2nd round...
On the other hand, his contracts with Nike, Wilson, Rolex and several other strong sponsors, guarantee him an income of around 5.5 million dollars.
What is the connection between Dimitrov and Federer?
Dimitrov had been projected by many as Roger Federer's successor. They have a similar style of play, they had the same agent, Tony Godsick, and the same sponsors behind them for years - and his nickname is "Little Federer." For a long time, from 2014 to 2017, Dimitrov was represented by the agency founded by Roger Federer, but after that he decided to change agents and for the last three years he has been represented by Georgi Stoimenov.
However, Dimitrov still shares many companies that also represent Roger Federer, so perhaps a crazy theory has appeared that there is an attempt to undermine Novak in order to prevent him from breaking the Swiss's record, who is synonymous with tennis in the Western world.
But, when you take into account Dimitrov's behavior since coming to Belgrade, as well as, as we have learned, some moves made by his managers, there is suspicion of something bigger being behind everything.
Of course, immediately after Dimitrov announced that he was positive for COVID-19, the world media "crucified" Novak, who, as the world's top tennis player, is defying the West over the announced rigorous organization of the US Open and help to lower ranked tennis players.
