The Crisis HQ for the fight against coronavirus has made recommendation that masks and gloves should be mandatory in the parliamentary elections to be held in Serbia on June 21, both for voters and members of polling stations commissions, Telegraf has learned.

After this, it is the Serbian government's move, and a source close to the government confirmed to us that a decision on this will be made during one of the upcoming sessions.

Considering that the epidemic of special significance is still in force in our country, that coronavirus is still present, according to Dr. Branislav Tiodorovic, a member of the Crisis HQ, a recommendation has been made on how voters should behave, as well as members of commissions.

"It was recommended to vote with masks and gloves, to keep a distance, and there must be disinfecting barriers at the entrance. When the finger is checked, it is necessary to put on a new glove. I am of the opinion that gloves are not necessary for voters if they wash their hands, but that is also a recommendation. As for the commissions, they must have everything, and in my opinion, gloves are mandatory for them," Tiodorovic told Telegraf.rs.

We have been told that this topic did not come up during sessions of the Republic Electoral Commission (RIK), nor was it on the agenda - but, they say they will respect any decision made by the government.

"If the proposal of the Crisis HW is adopted, i.e. if the Government of Serbia adopts such a decision, it is up to us only to respect it. Wearing protective equipment at the polls was not an item on the agenda at the sessions of the RIK," said Miljkan Karlicic, a member of the RIK, speaking for our portal.
