We learn: Red Star wants to hire Aleksandar Katai, disgraced in the US - but he has other priorities
The Red Star football club went on the offensive to sign Aleksandar Katai, immediately after LA Galaxy fired the Serbian football player due to the inappropriate racist outburst of his wife Tea Katai, prompted by the protests in the US over the murder of George Floyd, which turned into violence.
Katai apologized in vain and the club issued a statement - but the fans were furious and told Katai that he was not welcome in Los Angeles, after which the contract was terminated.
On the very same day, Zvezdan Terzic (general director of Red Star Belgrade) issued a statement saying Katai was welcome in Red Star, and that the club would definitely call him.
As we find out - Red Star contacted Katai and told him that he was welcome to rejoin the club - where he already played with great succesa from 2014 until 2016.
The red-and-whites were are ready to offer Katai between 500,000 and 600,000 euros per season - which is close to what he was erning in LA Galaxy, where his annual salary was 650,000 dollars, not counting bonuses.
However, it is not a priority for Katai to find a new club immediately - he first he wants to figure out moving out of Los Angeles, where he was supposed to live and play for the next three years - and where, due to his wife's recklessness, he has been left with nothing in a minute.
As we found out, Katai is responsive to Red Star's advances - but his priority will be clubs from the Far East, which are interested in him and are ready to offer him financial conditions that Red Star cannot compete with.
Katai should come to Serbia in the coming days, after which he could hold talks with Red Star heads, including coach Dejan Stankovic - but that is not his priority when it comes to his career.
In any case, this occasional member of the Serbian national team will not close the doors on Red Star - but after the problem he had in America, playing in a calmer environment, with a much higher and above all safer income, seems like a much more logical option.
The decision will certainly be up to Katai, but it is certain that he's in no rush to pick his next club - and currently has other priorities that he needs to solve first.
