EU's Borrell replies to Thaci: Dialogue has no alternative
EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Twitter that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, mediated by the Union, has no alternative.
A day after the president of the provisional institutions in Pristina, Hashim Thaci, said that he would not participate in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina if it is led by European envoy Miroslav Lajcak, EU Commissioner Borrell reacted.
The future of the #WesternBalkans, including both Kosovo and Serbia, is European. As EU we are committed to accompany them on every step of their path. But to make the European future a reality for their people, there is no way around the EU-facilitated Dialogue.— Josep Borrell Fontelles (@JosepBorrellF) May 27, 2020
"As EU we are committed to accompany them on every step of their path. But to make the European future a reality for their people, there is no way around the EU-facilitated dialogue," he tweeted.
Hashim Thaci said yesterday that he has full confidence in the dialogue that would be led by the United States.
"Personally, as the president, I will respond to invitations to summits that would be led by Merkel, Macron, etc. But I do have the will to participate in a negotiation process led by Lajcak," Hashim Thaci said.
