Change of plan: City transport to be available to everyone from tomorrow, but some measures remain

After the request of the president of the Republic and the new decision of the Republic Crisis HQ, which turned the obligatory instruction on organizing public transport into a recommendation, the Secretariat for Public Transport gave instructions to carriers and sent an appeal to the citizens.

As the city secretary for public transport, Jovica Vasiljevic, specified, public transport in Belgrade will be renewed from May 8 at 4 o'clock in the same volume and in the same way as before the decision to shut it down.

"Public transport can be used by all citizens, not just those going to work. All existing tickets may be used for public transport, as had been the case before the decision to shut it down during a state of emergency. Because public transport can be used by all citizens, security guards will not be present, introduced through an instruction of the Republic Crisis HQ to control who uses public transport," said Vasiljevic.

He appealed on the citizens to respect the recommendations made by epidemiologists, to use masks and gloves, as well as to practice social distancing. That will be the personal responsibility of the citizens, and not of the carrier, Vasiljevic said.
