China and Serbia will know how to overcome all economic hardships they face in the wake of the pandemic crisis, Chinese President Xi Jinping said today in a phone conversation with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who thanked China for helping to stop the infection and for its brotherly concern for the citizens of our country.

President Xi said he hoped to see President Vucic in China soon, and confirmed his official visit to Serbia, the president's press service said.

The entire statement reads as follows:

"When the first plane with substantial Chinese help in medical equipment and materials accompanied by Chinese experts landed at the Belgrade airport on 21st March, new optimism awakened and the citizens of Serbia knew that they were not and will not be alone in this battle," said President Vucic.

He also thanked for the donation - two COVID-19 laboratories to start operating in Belgrade and Nis, which will undoubtedly contribute to Serbia's successful fight against the virus. President Vucic also asked President Xi to help Serbia acquire additional medical equipment needed in fighting the infection.

President Vucic emphasized that Serbian citizens are particularly touched by the tremendous interest and solidarity of the Chinese people, reflected in messages of support as well as in donations sent through Serbian diplomatic missions in Beijing and Shanghai, which speaks of the exceptional closeness and steel friendship of the two nations despite the geographical distance.

"We are pleased to hear the news of the situation normalization in China and the opening of the city of Wuhan, which has become a symbol of strength and courage in the fight against the pandemic. With trepidation and deep compassion and admiration, Serbia was following the struggle of the Chinese state, the Communist Party and the friendly people of China, against the powerful attack of the coronavirus," said President Vucic, and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased Chinese citizens on behalf of the citizens of Serbia.

He stressed his belief that with the help of the powerful Chinese state, Serbia and the world will defeat the coronavirus and emphasized that he looks forward to continuing the cooperation through Mechanism 17 plus 1 and the Belt and Road initiative, and to the Chinese President's upcoming visit to Serbia.

President Xi expressed hope that he will soon meet President Vucic in China and confirmed his official visit to Serbia.

Chinese President wished Serbian President personal happiness and continued success in running the state, adding that China and Serbia will be able to overcome all economic difficulties they face due to the crisis caused by the pandemic.

"Last preparations before the conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Thank you China for the huge support to Serbia," Vucic said earlier on his official Instagram account, ahead of the phone call with the Chinese president.
