Professor Doctor Svetozar Putnik, a cardiac surgeon from the Clinical Center of Serbia's Cardiac Surgery Clinic, has taken part in the second web conference organized by the Patient Forum of Serbia.

Dr. Putnik spoke about whether the situation where we are spending most of our time at home will have its consequences, especially for people with heart problems and senior citizens over the age of 65.

Asked how the current sedentary lifestyle will affect the risk of heart disease and heart attacks in the future, Dr. Putnik said it can bring risks.

"Obesity will increase, we will have a significant number of obese people if this lasts for three months or more," he said.

The fact is that during the isolation period, we eat more and move less and are denied the opportunity to spend time outdoors, and Dr. Putnik says everyone should strive to stay physically active.

"Having a terrace is a treasure in these situations. Take advantage of the sunny periods whenever you can, it is very important for your immunity to be outside as much as possible. As far as physical activity is concerned, in addition to walking, cardiovascular patients are advised to do nothing else. Now the only solution is to walk around the apartment, there is no other option. Swimming is very good, but we can't do that right now," concluded Dr. Putnik.
