Total curfew begins in all of Serbia on Friday and will run until Monday - with these exceptions
The curfew begins on Friday at 5 pm throughout Serbia, and will last until 5 am on Monday, Telegraf has been able to confirm.
The official decision will be announced after the Crisis HQ meeting, as we have learned from a source close to the Serbian government.
Although it has been said that the curfew could be introduced for Belgrade and Nis as the biggest coronavirus hotspots, the rule will be valid for the whole country.
Exempt from the measure will be pensioners who will be able to go shopping (at designated hours) and farmers working their fields on tractors.
"Pensioners will be able to go out and shop from 4 am o 7 am on Friday," we have been told.
The introduction of the all-day police curfew was also discussed last night by the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, who said that such a decision would be made on the basis of a proposal by professionals, and that assessments were being made on a daily basis.
"Most likely we will introduce quarantine from Friday to Monday, because Saturday morning cost us dearly, people were gathering on Mt. Fruska Gora and all the picnic spots, groups of 40 people each. What can we do, we'll have to go this way. It is quite certain that we will bring this measure to Belgrade, Nis, and we'll see about other cities," Vucic said at the time.
We recall that epidemiologist Predrag Kon said his proposal was to introduce an absolute, 24-hour ban on contact in the next 8 to 10 days, and if necessary, on movement in individual in some hotspots, in order to break the spread of the virus.
Kon pointed out that we are now at the peak of the spread of the epidemic - which will last another 8 to 10 days.
