In the time of coronavirus, at least someone enjoys: Watch these penguins lunch in the Belgrade sun
The Belgrade Zoo closed its gates to visitors during the coronavirus epidemic. Telegraf's crew has been able to record the mood in a garden where only animals rule now, and the penguin area was especially interesting to our cameras because penguins are an attraction in and of themselves.
We arrived at the right moment when there's the most excitement in the pools - it was feeding time. Our host, biologist Kristijan Ovari, revealed to us that Humboldt's penguin (Spheniscus humboldti) is a growing population and currently numbers about 30,000 animals worldwide.
They face many predators in nature. In addition to humans, there are sharks and sea lions, and on land, mostly the young are killed by wild cats, dogs, snakes and rodents. It is for these reasons that such penguinariums exist, that preserve and increase the numbers of this endangered species.
It was a wonderful, sunny day in Belgrade - and the footage you see in the video at the top of the page will certainly improve your mood in times of isolation and quarantine.
Stay home. Take care of yourself, your loved ones, and of course, your pets.
