Professor Doctor Milorad Pavlovic, an infectologist, spoke about why obese people and diabetics are the most vulnerable group who can develop severe symptoms caused by the coronavirus infection.

"Obesity is an immune-active substance that secretes a large number of endocrinological and immune-proinflammatory substances, so that part of our body is a good reserve for the positioning of a large number of infectious agents. The adipose tissue contains ACE2 receptors to which coronavirus binds itself even more than to the lung tissue. Well - the more fat tissue we have, the greater the chance that the virus will develop," he stressed.

Dr. Pavlovic says that obese people and diabetics are at the greatest risk, and even those who do not have the disease manifestation but instead have an already reduced insulin resistance.

"I think that after this epidemic, many people will reconsider deeply about how they will continue to approach their lifestyle mannerism and understand the defense against infection by changing their diet regimen."

He pointed out that, de facto, the deadly form of this infection is sepsis.
