A cheerful man, killed by coronavirus: Doctors in Svilajnac bid farewell to a beloved colleague

Health workers from the Healthcare Center in Svilajnac said goodbye today to a colleague, Dr. Goran Ivankovic, a 57-year-old, who died from the consequences of coronavirus, as confirmed by the director of the Cuprija General Hospital.

Dr. Ivankovic, a urology specialist, was head of the urology ward at the Cuprija Hospital, a respected physician and humanitarian remembered by numerous patients and colleagues from the Pomoravlje District.

Dr. Vera Branisavljevic, director of the Healthcare Center in Svilajnac, spoke at the commemoration, after which a minute of silence was observed as a tribute to the late doctor - as well as to another colleague who previously passed away in Nis - Biljana Natic ​​Ljumovic, the first victim of coronavirus among healthcare workers.

"We all more or less knew Dr. Goran Ivankovic even though he was not a member of our collective. For many years, Cuprija specialists have been coming to examine our patients. As far as I knew him, he was a man of a cheerful spirit, a man always ready for consultation, for a story from life, not just from medicine. He was a versatile personality, not narrowly focused solely on medicine, on the jobs and responsibilities of a doctor. He died two days ago from coronavirus at the Clinical and Hospital Center Zemun," said Dr. Branisavljevic.

She added that Dr. Ivankovic loved hiking.

"He received a lot of accolades in those fields. His wish was to become an army officer, but eventually he opted for medicine, he loved to collect weapons exhibits, he authored many scientific papers, surrendered himself wholeheartedly to his work, and was especially dealing in endemic nephropathy. Some of his works have been published in international journals, all of which confirms the first sentiment: that he was a broad personality, and in addition, a highly skilled and humane man, who treated his colleagues and his patients accordingly."

Dr. Goran Ivankovic was laid to rest today at the Paracin City Cemetery.
