Serbian government makes decision on information about coronavirus during state of emergency

The government of Serbia has determined by a conclusion adopted on March 28 that information about health measures taken and other information related to the treatment of COVID-19 given by unauthorized persons cannot be considered accurate and verified, and warned that such behavior can result in these persons being held responsible for dissemination of misinformation during a state of emergency.

The Conclusion published in the Official Gazette today states that informing the population about the condition and consequences of the infectious disease represents a special measure to protect the population from the infectious disease.

The government of Serbia states that, in a state of emergency, it is an absolute imperative that citizens receive exclusively verified and accurate information regarding the condition and consequences of COVID-19.

The government of Serbia concludes that the COVID-19 Crisis HQ headed by the prime minister of Serbia is in charge of informing the public, therefore she or persons authorized by the Crisis HQ are the ones providing all announcements.

Mayors and and municipal presidents, that is, local self-government emergency HQs, are in charge of directing all information regarding the condition and consequences of the contagious disease exclusively to the Crisis HQ, it has been decided.

Healthcare institutions and healthcare workers submit information in the part of the measures they are implementing themselves to a competent institute, or institute for public health, which further forwards it to the Crisis HQ.
