Election process to continue only after the end of state of emergency: What this means for elections

The Republic Electoral Commission has issued a decision on suspension of all electoral activities to elect National Assembly members, people's deputies.

This decision was made in accordance with the decree on emergency measures that suspends the election process while the state of emergency caused by the spread of coronavirus is in force.

The election process in Serbia will be resumed after the decision is made to end of the state of emergency, said President of the Republic Electoral Commission Vladimir Dimitrijevic.

A few days before a state of emergency was introduced, the Serbian president said that he would meet with representatives of political parties on Tuesday, March 17, and that the topic of the meeting would be parliamentary elections scheduled for April 26

"I invited all interested parties, I would assume two representatives from each, to talk openly, to see what to do about elections," said Vucic, adding that at that time other things were more important, such as how to preserve health.
